Thanks for the information on lepidolite. Where is the Foot Mineral Company
or the others you mentioned. I can call information here and get their
numbers if I know where they are located. The telephone number you included
looks like it is from another country but I don't know which.

Thanks again.

The latest information from here in Philadelphia:
Lithium Corp of America is a division of Foot Mineral Company and do not make
or sell lepidolite. Neither does Ceramic Color and Chemical Manufacturing
Company have it any longer. Chappel says there is no substitute so I seem to
be stuck. Further help would be swell.

Lynne-

I did a quick web search for you and found that you can order Lepidolite
crystals from a place called Crystal Sands (It is one of those new-age
Wiccan-and-pyramid places), but they do have the mineral grade Lepidolite
crystals. Cost is $2.00 per ounce plus shipping. Figured you could buy the
specimens and then grind your own?

Their URL is:

http://www.westol.com/~klinder/Crystal-Sands/order.html

Also: A goldsmith by the name of Bruce Holmgrain offers the following (this
is cut out of his web catalog.):

Lepidolite Cutting Rough-1993 mine run Deep violet shades with some slight
quartz veining and specks of cleavelandite. Highly silicated. Takes
a great polish. 2X2 to head sizes. South Dakota, USA $ 8.00/lb

Bruce's URL is:

http://www.knight-hub.com/manmtndense/bhh3.htm

(This may work out if the SiO3 content can be accounted for in your formulae.)

I have no idea as to their reliability, but it is a lead, at least.

Foote Mineral is actually Cyprus Foote Mineral and the main headquarters is
in Easton PA. One of their plants in Virginnia was moved to Nevada, the
Nevada plant produces Lithium Carbonate and extracts it from brine from under
a dry lake bed. They might give you some information about their other
divisions if you call 702-937-2222
