Jonathan:
I called Bob Kelly with Hewitt this morning and he gave ma a price of $23 for
10x20x3/4 shelves fob Bethlem Pa. The shelves he said I would need are called
CORDERIT (my spelling, not his). Are these the ones you refered to in your
post of 9/3 as being "excellent high quality alumina/corderite
compositions"? He sounded very positive and cooperative. If this is the
stuff you use, I sure want some. I fire c10R. Do you use this temperature
or what?

Thanks for sharing

These shelves are durable, have a long and healthy life, and weigh slot
less than their silicon carbide counterparts. These shelves are trade named
"Alcorit" and there is also a "Mulcorit"
composition. They are alumina corderites and mullite corderites, all used
in European cermaic industries along with those of the other manufacturers
I suggested. In fact, Acme Marls has some great literature which shows
their products supporting huge loads in sanitary ware factories.

My original Alcorit shelves purchased in 1980 or so through Keith COmpany
who was acting as a sales agent for Spinx (now Hewitt) are still in use, 16
years later in my new car kiln. Flat as boards and always a pleasure to
stack ware ion them.

Cehck 'em out. You'll be glad you did. And the usual disclaimers apply, but
I'll endorse these anytime!!

Best
