itc/flue question

Hi all,
I just called the ITC company and talked to Alice there about
ordering some ITC 100 to coat my newly built gas kiln.
(see my page at- http://www.amug.org/~mishlowe/kiln/kiln.html )

She was SO nice and very helpful on the phone, even calling me back
so we could talk on *their* dime. She made one suggestion that I
don't recall hearing before (admittedly, I didn't follow all the ITC
discussions here, never enough time to read everything). She said
that to see the fuel savings they claim, I will have to shrink my
flue size by 30-50%. She said they get people who've coated kilns
*raving* to them about better glazes and colors and how their shelves
are so much easier to keep up and they can even repair shelves with
it, etc. etc....but that the reported fuel savings are not
right...and it's because the heat flies around faster in the kiln
atmosphere and will get lost out the flue if it's as large as normal.

Now, I have a 20 cu. ft, downdraft LP car kiln, that I built using
Nils Lou's venturi flue design (described in _the Art of Firing_),
this design is a bit smaller than normal and has two constrictions.
Has anyone had any experience changing flue size with ITC?
What has been the results?

Thanks in advance!

Michelle,

Have only fired one bisque and one glaze in my old MFT since spraying
ITC100, but I had no trouble with my original Nils Lou chimney/damper
system. I use an oxyprobe, so I was able to adjust easily. Glazes looked
fine, fuel savings about 10=25 or more... apparently savings should increase
in the next couple of firings. Just build it as designed, it'll be fine.
