itc and wash question

How does ITC effect the cooling cycle of a kiln? I have a hard brick
interior and try to cool down pretty slowly. Several of you have noted how
you've cut your firing times and fuel usage so I was wondering if you had
observed any effects on the cooling?

Also, I just got some new silicon carbide shelves for my salt kiln, I was
wondering if I could get away with NOT washing these. My glazes are all
stable- none run, and I wad everything. I salt rather lightly... about 12
lbs in a 50 cu ft kiln. The salt beads up on the undersides and on the
edges of my shelves that do have wash. This is easily removed w/ a putty
knife. I was wondering what the salt would do on the tops of shelves with
no wash?? I'd like to be able to flip these new shelves from firing to
firing to prevent warping and get them to last me awhile.
I do wash my post ends and use wads between posts and shelves.

Thanks,
Ron Philbeck

Hello Ron, I've coated my gas kiln with ITC, and have fired it twice. One
of the many advantages is that it does cool down more slowly. Sorry, I
don't salt so can't answer your question concerning your new shelves.
Regards, Liz
