itc pros, help on new shelves?

After reading so many testamonials about ITC, I broke down and ordered
the 100 and 296A. Planning to spray on my castable kiln which is at
long last finished!! It made it through the first firing fine. All my
constructions joints worked as planned, except for the back wall which
developed a huge crack running diagonally up from the exit flue. Alice
at ITC sent free pint of the filler material to mend the crack. Nice
folks. So the question is, should I coat my brand new silicon carbide
shelves?
Reading the archives, I see that Marcia in Montana has done so with no
problems. My somewhat wild approach to glazing does lead to glaze runs
at times, so I'm wondering if it would be better to use the 50/50
standard kiln wash that WILL easily chip off taking the puddled glaze
with it. What actually happens when a glaze runs on a shelf coated with
ITC? Does it just pop right off without taking a chunk of silicon
carbide with it? Could regular kiln wash be used on top of fired ITC?
Would the ITC still have an effect this way? Should I coat both sides
as Alice at ITC recommended...hmmm this thought kinda goes against
common sense, but who knows.
I hope some of you ITC pros out there will advise me of your
experiences.
Thanks,
