My wife and I will be in Dublin, Ireland during the middle of June this
summer. While she is attending a conference, I would like to visit any
potters or studios in or near Dublin. If anyone has knowledge of names or
organizations to contact, I would appreciate any replies. Thank you.

I have some pottery I bought in Ireland two years ago - bought in a Dublin
store.

One is Rossmore Country Pottery Clonakilty, West Cork, Tel: (023) 38875 This
is a stoneware mug with an oatmeally glaze with blue swishes and black dots.
Nice shape, size and weight,

One was small majolica/earthenware with the name Judy Greene - Galway,
Ireland.

The third was labeled Forge Pottery - Kiln-fired stoneware - hand-made at
Antrium BT41 N. Ireland Tel. 084 94 65349. These people were in Ceramics
Monthly maybe around the late spring early summer two years ago. If I find
the article I'll send info. I didn't get to see the potteries as I was on a
group tour.

Greeting from Belfast, Northern Ireland! The potters who work under the
name Forge Pottery in Antrim are John and Linda Murphy. They in fact did
appear in an article, "Ceramics in Northern Ireland: More There Than The
Troubles" which appeared in Ceramics Monthly, Jan. '95 issue. At present
their work and that of other Irish potters is available at Craftworks
Gallery in Belfast. Interviewing them for the article was a pleasure. I
spent the day with them. Over coffee and sandwiches they kindly answered
whatever questions I had. At present I am doing a "Visiting Prof. at
Univ. of Ulster at Belfast.

Thougt I'd pass this on to you. There are lots of craftspersons in
Letterfrack, Ireland, near Galway Bay, not far from Shannon Airport. Nice
knits, and of course, there's always Waterford, in the south. A good book
to read: The Year of The French, about the 1789 aborted attempt at
revolution. It's wonderful. Can't remember the author.

I am going to Dublin, Ireland this August and want to visit some potters
while I am there. Does anybody have any names (addresses & telephones
would be great!) of potters, who live in or around Dublin, who I should
try to look up. Given that things are so close in Ireland the names of any
other "must see" potters outside of Dublin would also be
appreciated. Thanks in advance.

We're vacationing in Ireland in early June and would like advice on
not-to-be-missed potters and/or other not to be missed things, places, etc.
Please email to me, not the list, as I'm sure this has been around before.
Thanks!

Greetings,

Are there any Irish or Scottish potters out there? I am looking for some
information on guiilds, groups and organizations, as well as those
interested in Neolithic and Bronze Age pottery. I have been expanding into
creating replicas of these and would like to connect with people who are
interested in the field.
Thanks,
Joan

Dear Joan Slack ,
A good source of information is

Alex Gibson, "Neolithic and Early Bronze Age Pottery" in the Shire
Archaeology series. ISBN 0-85263-755-1
Many of the illustrations show both the form of the decoration and the
inner and outer profiles.

Great topic.

Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.

For Scottish potters try this link. You'll find quite a few individual potters. They might help you with what you're looking for.
www.scottishpotters.co.uk/

Another thought is to try the SCA...Society for Creative Anachronism. It is a mediaeval reenactment group. Their date range is 500 AD to 1600 AD. Their main website is www.sca.org You should be able to track down more international groups this way.
