The following workshops in ceramics and glass are being offered by the
Indianapolis Art Center. To register by phone with a credit card, please

BEGINNING GLASS BLOWING
Instructor: Ed Francis
June 23-27, Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The course is designed to approach glass as a material for the expression of
ideas and will provide the student with a basic understanding of glass and
some proficiency in glass working. Technical information will include glass
formulation and melting, annealing and structural capabilities and the
development of good work habits in the hotshop. Students will be encouraged
to experiment with form, surface, and texture. The assignments will be
flexible and able to accomodate other materials.

COLORED GLASS TECHNIQUES (Intermediate Level)
Instructor: Trey Gott
July 21-25, Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.

This class will be an intensive workshop focusing on the various techniques
used to apply and manipulate color during the glass blowing process. We
will be using powders, chips, rods, canes, shards and reducing colors.
Techniques will include, but not be limited to, wraps, layering, additions,
color overlay, optic patterns, spirals and drawing with canes. Students
will purchase colored glass from the instructor at the time of the workshop
for approximately $20 to $40 per person.

LAMINATED CLAY
Instructor: Dorothy Feibleman
June 7-8, Saturday-Sunday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Dorothy has lived in England since 1973. She will conduct a two-day
workshop on clay laminating and other techniques that have brought her
international acclaim and inclusion in many collections. She is a native of
Indianapolis and graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Students will learn the unique technique she has developed in this rare
opportunity to work with one of the world's top ceramic artists. Saturday
will be a lecture and demonstration; Sunday will be a hands-on workshop.

CERAMIC HANDLES
Instructor: Andrew Sanders
June 14-15, Saturday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.; Sunday 12:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

This workshop will look at the practical and aesthetic considerations
involved with the making and attaching of handles of all shapes and sizes.
Students are encouraged to bring leather-hard ware on Saturday for handle
application, however, handles can be applied to other media. Throwing will
be involved on Saturday after appropriate discussion on how to produce
shapes suitable for handling--handles will be applied on Sunday. Possible
forms for handles include mugs, pitchers, teapots, casseroles, jars, and
canisters.

PRECIOUS METAL CLAY

Precious metal clay is the revolutionary new material that you work as a
clay, bake in a kiln and out comes an object that is solid silver! (the
organic binder burns away) In this workshop, create your piece of art or
jewelry and after baking, use basic metalsmithing skills to finish and
polish your piece. Please note: PMC costs about $30 per ounce and is only
available from Rio Grande.
