how not to clean shelves!

Hi Everyone,
I was feeling rather smug, reading the thread on cleaning shelves.
I seldom have drips and runs. So of course in my latest firing I have
a doozy.
I get the pot off and there is this huge, sharp sliver sticking up.
I go off to get together the stuff to sort this out, come back,
nearly overbalance, put my hand out to steady myself......where?
Well on the nice sharp sliver of course. Ooowee!!(though that is not
what I said!!) The darn thing lodged in the fingerbone and went in a
lot easier than it came out.
If anyone would like lessons in how to sing ALL the major arias from
Aida in 30 seconds............I'm considering giving lessons.
Toni M...wondering if my newly red kilnshelf will give me an ox?blood
effect in my next firing ;-)

Toni M. posted about slicing yourself on glaze. This happened to
me at the studio at school last week. I was loading a kiln that
someone else had used last. They left behind some glaze on a shelf
and neither they nor I noticed it (it was a white glaze). I cut
my thumb severely on the jagged edge. My first thought was that I
had better not get the blood on the pots.

Then inspiration struck. The kiln was empty so far, so i held the
bleeding thumb over it, and let some blood splatter down inside.
Every little bit helps when praying to the kiln gods, I figure!
Then I turned around to an audience...they said they had no idea
I was such a pagan!

I defended myself on the grounds that I had not deliberately sliced
myself, but as long as the blood was flowing...... Well, it was a
pretty decent load, so perhaps this pagan thing is working! ;)

leaking libations liberally,

Laurel

I work primarily in theatre, and it is considered very good luck to have a
techie "bleed" on the set! So hey, why not the kiln!!
Of course it's bad luck if an actor does it!
