handbuilding class

I would like to hear from some of you about an idea i have for my fall
handbuilders. It always seems that the quick ones finish their single
assignments faster than the ones who are "clocking in." I haven't found
a satisfactory way to deal with this. I was thinking about giving all
the assignments at once, and allowing the students to work all quarter at
their own pace, with demonstrations once a week.

Do you guys think this might be overwhelming, or just more flexible?
Just when I think I'll do it, I chicken out. Help!

If you have an opinion or suggestion, please reply directly (unless you
think it will benefit everyone). ehayes@ctc.edu

Thanks!

Erin,
When I was a student, I think I would have been stressed by having all of
the projects thrust upon me at the beginning. Perhaps an overview of
the class would be good, but not too much detail. What I appreciated
were timely suggestions by instructors when they could see that some
students were ready to move on. You could have 'special' projects in
mind for those times. Just some ideas from an 'old' student.
