I once read in a CM article that ground glass or "cult.." or something or
other to that affect was a constituent in a glaze... Can anyone tell me the
purpose or effect it would have on the glaze...Marshall

I have heard ground glass referred to as "frit" at my local stained glass
window dealer's. I did a few experiments using ceramics frits combined with
only mason stains. They appeared to be glass or at least glass-like after
firing. Patsy

You have had some responses but I have a couple of
bit sof information for you. In his book "Glazes and Glaze
Techniques", Glen Daly uses glass cullet as one of
several ingredients that you could either add to existing glazes
to modify them or to create a new glaze. Have a gander at
this excellent book. Secondly, the Jaipur Blue potters
(the pottery rather than the potters are blue) use glass cullet
as a major ingredient in their glazes. They fire using wood to
low earthenware temperatures using a small updraft bottle
kiln. You can see pictures in Olsen's Kiln Book. They are in
Jaipur, Rajasthan, India by the way - not exactly convenient but well
worth the visit.

Hope this helps.
