floor tiles & glaze recipe

A friend of mine would like to make floor tiles. She is unsure of the
type of clay to use - high or low fire, or does it matter?

Also I am trying to find the recipe and cone of a glaze called Borealis,
anyone used this and willing to share? Couldn't find it in the data
base.

If anyone out there is coming to the Michigan Fest at Michigan State
University, look for us (Clayworks) in the children's area.

Charlie -

I've not made floor tiles myself, but have heard that you should use
a high fire clay for strength. You also need to be careful about the
glaze you use because you don't want it to be slippery, either wet or
dry. I did a little research on this when I first started my
business and was surprised at the stringent technical specs on
traction performance that commercial tile manufacturers meet for
floor tile. If you are thinking of selling it (as opposed to putting
it in your own home) you should think about potential
liability. (I decided to stay as far away from floor tiles as
possible!)
