Is sodium silicate a good adhesive to instal fiber into drums for Raku kilns?
I have used ceramic fasteners, and found them unsatifactory. Any help would
be greatly appreciated on this topic. Sprintime in the mountains of
Virginia.

Thanks again,

Jim

Jim, I've used sodium silicate to glue fiber to the inside of a
galvanized garbage can for a portable raku kiln. It worked fine for
me. Sam

well, burt, i wish you luck in trying sairset sprayed on...our experience will
tell you that it will spall.

spalling is the worst possible of things that can go wrong with spraying
on any kiln surface....it gets all over your pots, ruins things.

the reason i have been sold on itc is that it does not spall.

all i need is one big platter to be peppered with little flakes of crap
and all the work of spraying is defeated.

BUT, PLEASE test any product that you wish to work with, you may find
a winner...i have not.
but, be careful, do not get the stuff on your pots.

the one thing i have discovered, what old delkic came up with does work.
i have been sent samples of several new products to spray on kilns ( made
by big ceramic companies), have not done it yet. do not have a new kiln
to spray, but will in time. obviously others are testing ideas.

i do know as a fact, that this is not an easy problem to solve...it is not
about
just spraying stuff on a kiln...... if it was that easy, well, there would
be more
products to buy.
