The Master Workshops Program
at the Lee Arts Center in Arlington, Va.

Presents:

A 4-day Hands on Intensive Workshop:
Handbuilding: Form and Surface
with Mary Barringer

Thursday, June 5, 1997 (5-9pm)
Friday, June 6, 1997 (5-9pm)
Saturday, June 7, 1997 (10am - 4pm)
Sunday, June 3, 1997 (10am - 4pm)

Both ceramic wheel 'workers' and handbuilders are invited to participate
in this fun and exciting four-day workshop.

This workshop will combine demonstrations of several handbuilding
techniques with hands-on experimentation and a discussion of slips and
engobes. Participants will explore different ways to bring the
immediacy of forming into the finishing process and will brainstorm with
the artist in resolving individual surface dilemmas.

Mary Barringer received her B.A. from Bennington College, and has been a
studio potter since 1973. She has exhibited her work nationally, most
recently at Pewabic Pottery in Detroit and the Boston Athenaeum. She
has also taught in both universities and craft centers and in 1996 guest
edited a series of articles on ceramic history for the Studio Potter
Magazine. Her recent work is handbuilt, painted with thin layers of
slip and glaze and fired in an electric kiln.

Fee for the workshop is $165.00. Please call the Lee Arts Center for
