One of my students is planning a home studio and is investigating different
wheels. He has become interested in an electric model by "Creative Industries".
Has anyone out in Mudville used this brand? Any comments on it for his
information? I'm recommending that he begin with some good used equipment. Any
used wheels and electric kilns out there for sale?
Thanks so much.

I bought a Creative Industries elec. wheel about a year ago and I am really
pleased with it. I do pottery in my garage workshop mostly for fun. The
nice thing about this wheel is that its got a long guarantee, it can be
upgraded to a heavier model if you need to, and it has a lot of built-in work
space around it. The splash pan is also a delight to remove and clean! Jan

I have three Creative Industries wheels in my school- the JR., and two
MP's. They are the favorites of the studio. A benefit of the C.I.'s is
that there is a huge work table that's part of the wheel itself. This
makes cleanup easier( there's a drainage hole for slip), and helps the
student to work a little dryer so that there's not so much slip to
clean up. I've never taken advantage of the option to upgrade the motor.
The wheel of the lowest power can take centering at least 20 pds of
clay..more than one student has done that.
Good luck to your student!!!

Marla- I had an opportunity to get the "HP" model of the CI wheel last year.
I am very pleased with it. The CI wheels are shaped a little different from
most of the other popular brands, but I like the stability of the wider base.

The "splash" pan is an easily removeable ring that merely serves to keep
water and slip from slinging all over. The water caught by the ring drops
to the top of the wheel body. The wheel body has two wings, with a space for
water bowls and tools in front of you. There is a drain in one of the
wings so the water can be drained into a bucket (or whatever) on the floor
under the wheel.

The wheel head is protected by a bonded-on finish that is easy on the hands
and easy to clean. Mine is not reverseable , but I think they make one that is.

The once that I needed service, the response was good.

Standard disclaimer- They dont know me from Adam, and I dont expect to need
to get in touch with them for a long time.

I use a CI wheel and love it. Never had any problem with it. I've met the
family who owns the company and found them to be very honest and interested
in customer satisfaction. I get enough power from the 1/4 hp to center any
amount of clay I'll ever use and the pedal gives me enough control. I don't
remember if the warranty is 5 or 10 years, but it covers everything.
