crying over drying

How come about crying about drying no one (yet) seems to have mentioned
(I may have missed) that not all clay bodies are created with the same
good drying capacity. Some dry really well, others not. That IS a factor.
And, sometimes the clay producer (if you buy it) has changed the formula
from one that was a good-drier to a bad drier and you do not know it,
becaue you find out only under extreme conditions. A drying idea that
has worked for me: Built a dampbox (even within your damp box) of
styrofoam held with duct tape.

Here on the West Coast, in the Whonnock rain forest, where we get almost
double the rain that Vancouver gets, we find that a dehumidifier in
our studio has given us remarkable results in drying without cracks and
warping. Not only are we getting good results, the pots dry quickly and
are ready for bisque in a couple of days. We picked up our dehumidifier
used for $75 and are very pleased with the result.
