Work with your bank to find the best merchant program available to
you. Ask to see if they have any used or reconditioned equipment available.

We are set up as a season merchant and have no monthly fees. We are
charged a small processing fee and the percentage, which for us hovers
around 2.75 to 3.0 percent of the sale. We purchased a veriphoone Tranz 330
card machine for $150(new) from the bank payable in two installments,
debited from our account. We then purchased a reconditioned printer for
$100.00, which lsated 4 years, and then they sent us a brand new one for
$25.00.

Their card processing center is accessable 24 hours a day, the 800 number
works all over the country, and we have been very happy with the quality
and level of service we have received as a seasonal vendor.

Jonathan:
What bank are you using? Is it one of the national ones or a local bank?

Has happened to me twice that I don't get a payment in on time - not
forgetting, more like being out of town for an extended time (I guess that
comes to forgetting...)
Both times I called the company (Capitol one), moaned and groaned a bit, an=
d
both times the fees were waived.

I don't take cc because I now do so few shows, but so far have not found it
a problem to wrap up the pot and ask the customer to send a check, never
been stuck yet. So far.
On the other hand, I do use the credit card for many many purchases (like
how would you rent a car without one?) and have taken many many free trips
abroad from the miles (Cap One being particularly good on that score). I
have no qualms about buying groceries with it. I do have qualms about using
it for a small business.
