I will be off the list for a week, starting next Tuesday. I expect to hit
the archives after I get back. The reason? - Glad you asked.

The second installment of the Fiftieth anniversary of the

Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

Will be at the Civic Center in Asheville, NC, next week. It opens on
Thursday (Oct 16) and runs through Sunday (Oct 19). Hours are 10AM-6PM.
There is an admission charge.

Fifty years, with two fairs a year, most years, is a LOT of succesful fairs.

I am going as support person to Iris, who makes unique quilts, and because
there will be LOTS of crafts people of many types, including all kinds of
Clay people. While I am in Asheville, I plan to visit Highwater Clay, to
drool over various clay related goodies. (No one should buy a Slab roller,
kiln, wheel, or any other expensive goodie without looking, if possible)

As another draw- The national "Chair Show" (a very interesting competition
and show) will be at the Folk Art Center, on the Blue Ridge Parkway, in
East Asheville, where, just incidentally, Iris has some of her quilts in
the "focus Gallery".

I think I have all my plugs in- come if you can. It is always fun.

In Ashville don't miss the new morning gallery near the entrance of the
Builtmore (also worth seeing) .Stop at a welcome center if coming across a
border into the state all kinds of brochures are available free on all kinds
o pottery operations.i only wish south carolina's arts commission had it
together as does north carolina. i feel so jealous we don't do as
well.Penland inn't too far( miles wise) if you haven't been there- north of
Ashville but allow a good part of a day from ashville as the mountain roads
at the end of the trip are not as fast as main highways.
