cracking up and particle orientation

No to disagree...all of what the many postings to this subject are indeed
correct. However, please note the spiral/particle orientation of the pug or
the spiral of your handwedging. If the spiral is rotating as the wheel
turns, that is concentric with the wheel, the result are "S" type cracks in
the bottoms of your pots.

Orient the clay on the wheel head so that the sprial is 90 degrees to the
head/shaft. Lawrence's
":Ceramic Science for the POtter" covers particle orientation quite necely
and ina very understandable manner.
