Everyone;

I"m sorry to say that the Clayart archives are presently unavailable for
access. They (Listserv) promise to have that changed in the near
future, but until then we are unable to use them. I'm sorry for this
inconvenience and I'll be sure to post a message to the list once they
are restored.

Thanks,

Joe

Howdy... Can anyone tell me why I can't access any clayart glaze archives? I
used to be able to about 8 months ago but now it either says server has denied
access from one area or I'll type in a generic term like gloss and it will say
nothing found (in any temp. range) Anybody have any ideas? Thanks... Tracy

YES!!!

We now have access to the Clayart Archives through Reference.com (a WWW
site). Unfortunately, they only began archiving the daily postings on
January 7, 1997, so anyone interested in going back further will need to
access them through the log files and/or the CeramicsWeb. But, we now
will have each days postings saved in the WWW site so this should make
retrieving information easy for everyone. This site is simple to use so
please try it out. Any questions, feel free to contact either myself or
Richard Burkett.

The address for this site is:

http://www.reference.com/cgi-bin/pn/listarch?list=clayart@lsv.uky.edu

note:

The contact address listed on this site is a pop address (Mary's) but please
direct all queries to me or Richard in order to keep Mary free from the day
to day questions. She's a great help with Clayart, but she has plenty
to do outside the Clayart list (she's not a potter, but loves pots!).

Thanks, and I hope you all find this new archive resource useful. Any
questions and/or comments, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Here's a quick update on getting older clayart archives if you want to look
through them or if you signed off or your mail was down.

Send this message first to listserv@lsv.uky.edu

INDEX CLAYART

You'll get a note back with a list of log files of clayart discussion. These
are monthly logs so they are rather large, some approaching a megabyte.
Obviously most people's email won't handle this large of a file, and sending
them is often slow, as large files move slower over the internet.

The answer is to use this format to request the log files, which breaks the
files up into 50K byte chunks and then emails these smaller files to you.
You'll still end up with a lot in your mailbox, but they come to your fairly
quickly so you can get your mail and clear out your mailbox before it overloads.

So to get the actual clayart archive you need to send the following message
to listserv@lsv.uky.edu

GET CLAYART LOGxxx SPLIT=50K

The LOGxxx will actually be something like 'LOG9702' which will get all
the February 1997 clayart mail. Use the listing that you get back after
you send the INDEX CLAYART command to listserv@lsv.uky.edu

I hope this is clear enough to help you all get older clayart archives.

Happy reading.

This is a reminder for anyone interested in accessing the Clayart
archives that they can be found at the following web site:

http://www.reference.com/cgi-bin/pn/listarch?list=clayart@lsv.uky.edu

They are easily accessed, and you can find a particular post by
searching the author or subject as well as any date. For example, if you
wish to find messages on a day that you were set to nomail, you can do
so easily by searching the date in question. Likewise, searching a
topic or following the thoughts of a particular person can be done
through this site with ease.

Hope this helps, and please let me know if you need any assistance.

Everyone;

This is a reminder that the Clayart archives are alive and doing well on
a web site.

The address for this site is:

http://www.reference.com/cgi-bin/pn/listarch?list=clayart@lsv.uky.edu

PLEASE use this site as it is a great way to catch up on missed mail, lost
mail, or more importantly, answers to questions that have been asked
before.

I want to encourage EVERYONE to make it a habit of consulting with this
directory of old Clayart mail before posting questions that you suspect
have been asked before. This will keep the list uncluttered and allow for
new information and queries.

Thanks,

Joe

Hello All:

I always read clayart through the Archives but now the link I have is not connecting just like Veena and others have mentioned... But there is a difference this time.. I can actually read it on the yahoo Groops clayart which normally should not be ..since if the archives are down they ( and potters.org) should not be able to harvest the postings. So how come the postings are showing up on the web without the archives?
I keep scratching my head without any results :).

You might try using a Gmail account to have all your clayart in. I use one.

I can sign folks up for a claycraft.org address if they'd like too.
Just write privately.

You can also download Gmail to Outlook Express on your hard
drive so that you can receive Clayart email in its own
folder.
