First of all... Joe, thanks for your reply. I will pass it along on Tuesday.
When we first found out you had built the same kiln we were happy to know
that we might have someone to correspond with about it. Thank you so much!

Hi All
Well this week we started by laying a layer of vermiculite and sweeping it in
the holes of the red brick (stretchers) laid last time.
Then we laid another layer of red brick (headers) using no mortar, and again
swept vermiculite into the holes.
The next row was firebrick. We mixed 60 pts by vol of fireclay and 40 pts by
vol of grog and then added water. One side was a bit low so we made the mix
thick and watered it down as we went, to keep level. The bricks are used and
needed to be wet so we washed them in water and dipped the bottom in the
mixture before we laid them.
There are 8 of us building and the assembly line worked great.
When near the end of the firebrick layer half of us went to work preparing
the plans for the arch. We laid it out and traced a template on a large
piece of cardboard box. We will begin building the wooden armiture (?) for
the arch on Tuesday and I will gladly pass on any suggestions for this (and
anything else) to the class.
It was a bit slow going in the beginning but the enthusiasm grows every day.
It is proving to be a very satisfying project.
I really appreciate the comments from you who have fired this kiln. We can't
wait!!!
