ceramics usa deadline

updated sun 30 jun 96

Douglas Gray on wed 5 jun 96

I have received numerous calls and e-mails regarding the entry deadline
for Ceramics USA. The date listed on the prospectus, June 5, today, is a
postmark date, and is no longer the established deadline date. Due to
some rescheduling on the part of our juror, Don Reitz, we have been able
to extend the deadline to Friday June 14. We need to receive the entries
by this date, it is not a post mark date. I hope this will help some of
you that have called. I would also appreciate it if all the clayarter
would help spread the word to interested parties.

I would also like to address another question that has been raised.
Ceramics USA hopes to present an exhibition that represents the wide
variety of ceramic art being produced in the US. Consequently, we are
very much interested in functional pottery as well. Many peaple have
assumed that since Don's own work is sculptural in nature that there
would not be a place for functional or utilitarian pottery. Let me
reassure you that this is not the case. We want everything from
sculpture to functional and all that lies between.

An added note: Thought some of you might be interested in knowing that
concerent with the Ceramics USA exhibition will be an exhibition of work
by Don Reit'z and last year's juror, Val Cushing. Also, the School of
Visaul Arts Craft guild at the University of North Texas has scheduled
Don for a work shop. I beleive that there will be a fee for the workshop
but it should be resonable. If you want more info on the workshop let me
know and I will find out the details for you. The University is located
in Denton, TX 30 miles north of Dallas for those of you who are already
planning the trip.

Finally, we hope to have the selected entries posted on the internet by
the opening date of the exhibition, August 28. Hopefully this will allow
any one interested to see the exhibit without the long commute.

If you need anymore information please contact me. And yes, I can still
fax, email, snail mail you an entry form. I have been delighted by the
response thus far and look forward to meeting many of you.
