I would like to find a workshop for making handmade ceramic tiles,
preferably on the east coast. Any suggestions appreciated. Frances Eddy.

If you're in the Washington, DC, metro area, the Corcoran School of Art has
an excellent course (not workshop, however) on tiles. I just completed it
and learned a lot.

For those of us who for one reason or another (time, $, distance) cannot
attend a tile workshop, I suggest Frank Giorgini's book, "Handmade Tiles".
It has step-by-step color photos on designing, making, and decorating tiles.
There's also a chapter on making tools and equipment, including an
inexpensive studio tile press. Hardcover, 144 pages. $24.95 from Lark Books
(free catalog by calling 1 800 283 3388) or $17.47 from www.amazon.com. ISBN
0937274763.
