carpal tunnel (and ulna nerve pinch)

Very dear clayarters-
I have just been reading a long list of "Re:Carpal Tunnel" messages, and
heave decided to come out of the closet, as it were. After my long series
of messages about Peripheral Neuropathy and then the Cervical spine surgery,
I was afraid one more thing would brand me a hypochandriac. Honest- I try to
keep myself healthy on my own, without needing help- but that doesnt always
work.

In recovering from the spinal surgery, I apparently bruised my Ulna nerve in
the process of holding myself in a comfortable position as the neck healed.
This was a lot like a bad case of CTS, because the initial bruising makes
the nerve and its sheath swell, which, in turn irritates the nerve- etc- etc.

The neurologist did some nerve conduction measurements, and also found that
that loss of thumb-forefinger stength was CTS, much advanced, but hidden
from me by the pain and discomfort from the Ulna nerve. (CTS is usually
damage to the Radial nerve)

Bottom line- I had both Ulna nerve release and CT surgery last week. I am
planning to work squeezing clay into the Physical Therapy I anticipate will
follow.

I am not driving yet, (even to Atlanta to see Toni M.!) and Iris has to keep
a close eye on me, as well as other chores. I tend to forget that I'm
suposed to be taking the load off that hand for now. It interferes with her
Quilting (she is an award-winner), which makes me feel guilty.

Bill, telling himself it is time to SHUT UP, on Persimmon Hill.
