clayarters: that damn veronica again...got me thinking
of cameras and pictures and this popped into my head.
also: used camera supplies are one of the best buys in america.
go to a good camera store, ask to see what is available. you
would be surprised...i have bought many things for less than
half price....i once got a nikor zoom/100/350. cost me $100.
i love those little screw on portrait lenses...+1,2,3. great for
shooting pots. fit right over your 50mm lense.

the camera

mr. uchida on many occasions said to me, melsan you
must get a good camera, nikon, best . yes, yes, sensai, I
will do that, but very expensive. he would mumble something
and be off to do other things.

as usual, one day, he popped to my wheel and said that
we would be going to tokyo in an hour. get ready, wear
your suit, you must look good. I ran home, got ready, left
a note for sharlene, and
was back in about 45 minutes, and off we went to the bullet train. I was
like a fireman, always had clothes ready
to go. had a small back pack with fresh things.

when we got to tokyo we went to the business district, and
he mumbled as we walked from the subway. my friend,
very important, nice man, very important, you be polite.
of course I said I would be good.

we got to a building with a big sign that said NIKON , and
went in. we took the elevator to the top floor and were
met by several woman in uniforms. we were ushered in
to a big office with a very handsome gentleman sitting
at a huge desk....rosewood, and there were about three
gorgeous uchida pots, pure white, on the desk. we all
bowed and mumbled very important things. uchida and
this man talked and laughed for about 15 minutes, we had
wonderful tea and cakes, (from an uchida teapot and cups)
(I think I had made the cups...) and I smiled a great deal.

about that time a door opened, and a girl with a teak cart rolled
into the room. it was covered with nikon stuff....camera, lenses,
case, mini tripod, the works.......

uchida said I would be buying these things, they were high quality
and would be what I needed, and would be delivered to his
house in several days. yes, sensai.

of course in several days all was delivered, I paid uchida, and
it was not very much......do not have those figures...but it was
very cheap. then he told me that the man that we had visited
was his boyhood friend, and now he was very important business
man, nikon company.....well he had the biggest office, on the top
floor of nikon, maybe there were bigger offices, and more important
men, but I doubt it. I just bought a camera from the man ....
mr. nikon. (if there is such a thing)

love that camera, still use it all the time. it seems very special
to me.....a tool, a very good tool. I love to watch professional
photographers drool over my 72 nikon, photomic, all manual
camera. great nikor lenses.....well cared for. it s like having
an old Porsche......kinda makes me smile.
