Greetings from South Texas,
A break from makin pots, reading the list.
Gail Busch a ceramist that I am married to, applies all of her sigilatta
to bisque ware. Burnishes up just fine. Getting sigs to stick to the
bisque without flaking is a bit of touch and go, but is mostly go.
Sigs made from red clays almost always work on her red clay bisqueware.
White clay sigs that she uses have to be coerced with a bit of flux. She
has no problem getting a shine, but it sure helps that here bisque ware
is smooth to begin with.
The semester is over and I was really impressed with the tasteful ways my
students used gold and silver lusters. I may inlcude them in my beginning
classes in the fall.

Louis -

Is Gail really BURNISHING her terra sigs on bisqueware, or is she polishing
them with a cloth or brush? The original post on this subject suggested the
idea of burnishing slips (with a hard, smooth burnishing tool) on bisqueware,
and I was sceptical. So, is this what Gail is doing?
