Hi, Anne -
here's a brown that we have used for years in our studio:

Dark Brown Matt Cone 6 from Plainsman Clay (Alberta)

25.0 custer feldspar
18.0 nepheline syenite
7.0 colemanite
15.0 whiting
22.5 kaolin
13.0 flint
8.0 manganese dioxide
1.5 black copper oxide

Apart from being dark, brown and matt, this glaze goes on well,
covers well and looks good with many other glazes.
