bisque temp for burnished ware

The bisque temperature which burnished wares will stand depends on the degree
of burnishing and the base clay and slip used. As a general rule I do not like
to bisque burnished wares higher than cone 018. That is enough for minimal
sintering, and serves the purpose of driving off all atmospheric and chemical
water which might otherwise cause wares to pop in the bonfire. I do not know
where Glenmont is, but I assume it is as humid there as it was in central
Massachusetts where I used to live. If that is so, leave the wares in the kiln
on very low heat after the firing until you are ready to load the bonfire, so
that the wares have minimal opportunity to absorb moisture. Good luck, and let
us know how it goes.
