Kathi:

I see students like you on occasion. I would first ask where you are
in the BA program (how many hours)? Our normal requirement for
admission into the MFA program is some equivalancy with the BFA in
terms of hours or experience. In this program the BFA has about 45
more hours in art and art history than the BA.

We have a program on this campus called New College which gives
credit for life experiences on a case by case basis. You might look
for a similar program in your area. We also, again on an individual
basis, allow students to work as an Irregular post graduate while the
completion of their undergraduate work is still conditional.

The bottom line is; where you are in the curriculum and how willing
the institution is to accept your life experiences. I would doubt
that any institution worth its accreditation would look the other way
when it came to their academic core and we all want you to take the
art major stuff. My advise is...you will probably have to bite the
bullet if you want the degree. We like our hoops.

Or you could look into a BS, instead of a BA. I have a BS in Fine
Art/Visual Art and I'm not sure of the particulars, but I know that I had
to have more hours of studio classes (and less, I don't know, creative
writing or foreign language or something) than a BA student. Does anyone
here know if you'd have trouble getting into an MFA program with a BS
rather than a BFA? I've not tried it.
