Hi all you clayarters who wanted to know who makes the Babcock and Wilcox
K-23. Thermal Ceramics out of Augusta, GA makes them and a k-28. Their
number is 706-796-6266. Hope that helps everyone. I am knee deep in
building kiln madness!

Thank you! Thank you! I really appreciate this information. But, in fact,
you've listed their phone number incorrectly. It's 706-796-4200. They're
very helpful about supplying names and numbers for local distributors.

Someone wrote recently asking about using softbrick for a salt kiln. If this
really is the same old formula for B&W K-23's (and the nice people on the
phone assure me that the only thing that has changed is the company name and
stationary) then these bricks will probably do well for you. I've never
built a full kiln out of them, but have used a set of these K-23's as the
door of my salt kiln for 90+ firings. And the way they've stood up to
repeated stacking and unstacking makes me think they'd be fine in a
stationary wall. I think I'd still avoid using them right around burner
ports and fireboxes, doorjambs etc. But if I were starting from scratch on a
kiln, I'd be tempted to use them everywhere else.

Thanks again, Heather! I'm really grateful to you.
