Hello,

I will be in Scottsdale, Arizona March 24th through the 29th and in Austin,
TX from March 31st through the 5th. Does anyone know of any shows, exhibits
or the like that I could attend?

Thanks,
Susie

Susan - AZ Scottsdale Hand & Spirit a MUST see. See.....most of her
clay art is high priced but inspirational. If interested, visit grad
ceramic studios at ASU in Tempe. Also ASU Museum has first rate colltn.
of clay - if time, perhaps you could also see their back room storage.
Don't know how friendly or busy they are. If you should get to Tuscon,
it's the home of Rose Cabat - I think she's still alive. Whether or
not still working & selling, I don't know but she used to have
a shop - in phone book. Also Berta Wright Gallery in Foothills
Mall - also carries Edward (?) Schier's work.

Day trip N of Phoenix = Sedona. Never been but think there's clay
shops there.

(Are you in Chicago?) ENJOY - we hope to move to AZ someday.

Scottsdale has a marvelous art school right near the heart of old town that
is great with come join in life classes a couple nights a week with first
rate models. No pottery but real decent sculpture . It is like a lot of the
art and craft centers with 1 week sessions with known artists then a regular
locals oriented ongoing program. They have a bulletin board with leads on
other neat stuff going on.It is very easy to find ,ask around as I have no
address here.

Susie; I was in Austin not too long ago and visited Clarksville Pottery
house, and the Clarksville Gallery. It was really interesting to see a
mass
production house and then to see the final results in the Gallery. The
Gallery not only carries Clarksville stuff, it is a prestigious gallery.
I'm sorry I can't give the exact dirrections, my friend was leading me
around. Austin is a beautiful city. Oh, one more site. See the UMLAF if
you can it is a sculpture garden and is wonderful as well. Enjoy, Jennifer
in Alpine,TX.

Hi Susie...
If you can make it to Scottsdale 1 day earlier, there is an annual show
that ends this year March 23rd, call Celebration of Fine Art right on
Scottsdale Road; it's an outdoor, tent show which covers a wide variety of
media. More info at (602) 443-7695. If March 23rd is out of the question,
there's always a variety of
excellent galleries on/near Scottsdale 5th Avenue. There are also weekly
Scottsdale ArtWalks on Thursday nights from 7P-9P, during which galleries
in
two areas are open during the evening, and often have openings for their
featured artists' shows, sometimes free (read cheap) wine/cheese. Check
out
www.arizonaguide.com/celebrateart for other events. I've been to numerous
Artwalks... very entertaining, especially if you like to people-watch.
Enjoy
your trip to AZ.
