alumina hydrate on kiln shelves

Dear List Members,

Several of you have written to me in the last few weeks re: my post on
Alumina Hydrate kiln wash/Shelf coatings in Skutt or other electric kilns.

I have today received a call from Skutt about this, to the effect that I
had attributed this warning to them when in fact they never issued.
Apparently the information that I attributed to them is not theirs. I am
very sorry if I have spread misinformation, and I regret any concern that
I might have raised inappropriately.

The information that I had came from what is now being referred to as
"un-official literature", and is not the company's official position on
this matter. Furthermore, I regret that I am unable to find the document
which was the source for this information. Some of you, most notably
Vince, have reported using the Alumina Hydrate shelf wash for years with
no noticeable element deterioration outside the normal range.

In short, it seems that I have cried "Wolf!" and for that I apologize. I
hope to get Skutt's official position on this matter in the next few days,
and relay it back to the list.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Blitz
