"colors flash" on cool down / post fire reduction

Not knowing much about when "colors flash", I have heard for example that
colors usually flash at somewhere between 800-600 degrees Celsius on the
cool down cycle after a glaze fire... Does slow cooling therefore generally
result in superior colors. I also have heard of and tried post fire
reduction but I don't do this post firing anymore as I feel that it was a
waste of time but perhaps it is not... I would like any comments on the
above two topics. Yes, I fire a gas kiln (propane) ...Marshall
